Getting to Karlstad

Unfortunately, Karlstad Airport is no longer served by any regular airline. When flying in, we recommend to use either of these well-connected international airports:

• Stockholm Arlanda
• Göteborg Landvetter
• Oslo Gardermoen

Each of these allows to reach Karlstad by train within 3-4 hours (via the respective central train stations of said cities).

Trains to Karlstad can be booked via sj.se. Unfortunately, due to ongoing track reconstruction works, the exact train schedules are published only some weeks in advance. Moreover, sometimes, intended train times are listed, but marked as “not bookable” (“ej valbar”) on the SJ website. These will likely become bookable at a later stage, some weeks in advance of the travel.

Alternatively, buses can be used to reach Karlstad (from Arlanda directly, from Gardermoen via Oslo’s central bus station). These can be booked via bus4you.se or flixbus.se, and can be more reliable than trains.
